⚖️ Public Interest Litigations
When democratic means are exhausted and institutions fail citizens, the courts remain a constitutional recourse. JMI supports Public Interest Litigations as a tool of last resort — to enforce rights, compel accountability, and uphold the law.
“A PIL is a citizen speaking to the Constitution directly — bypassing those who should have acted, and asking the judiciary to hold them to account.”

What Is a PIL?
A Public Interest Litigation is a petition filed in a High Court or the Supreme Court of India on behalf of the public interest — not just a private grievance. Any citizen can file one. It does not require the petitioner to be the affected party.
PILs have been instrumental in expanding the scope of fundamental rights in India — from environmental protection to prison reform to transparency in governance. They are a constitutionally guaranteed mechanism for citizens to enforce state obligations.
